Malta Dockers Union orders one hour solidarity strike

Today the Malta Dockers Union informed the Managements of Malta Freeport Terminals Limited and Valletta Gateway Terminals Limited (VGT) that it will be joining The International Dockworkers Council (European Zone) in a solidarity strike by ordering its members for a one hour stoppage on Tuesday 25 September 2012 betwenn 08.00 and 09.00.

The Union is ordering this stoppage to support Portugese port workers in their fight against the new Ports Law.

This stoppage is also coinciding with The European Ports Policy Review Conference organised by the European Commission which is being held in Brussels on the 25 September. Joe Saliba, President, and Clinton Sammut, Secretary of The Malta Dockers Union will be participating in this conference where they will reiterate the Union’s position to strongly oppose any attempt by the Commission to legislate European port labour services.
